The national antibullying charity, Kidscape is pleased to announce its free Bullying Intervention Training (BIT) for Primary Schools in 9 Inner London Boroughs including Tower Hamlets, Newham and Hackney.
The 3 Stage Training programme which offers support for professionals, pupils in years 4 and 5 and parents as part of a Whole School Antibullying Approach aims to:
- Raise awareness of the many forms that bullying can take
- Explore strategies to help recognise, prevent and deal with bullying
- Develop pupil confidence and self esteem
- Build resilience
- Improve pupil conflict resolution skills
The Training fits in well with the targets of the KS2 PSHE and Citizenship Curriculum and its evaluated outcomes might be used as evidence for the OFSTED requirement that schools take action to prevent and tackle bullying and harrassment.
BIT is offered to clusters of four schools at a time and two places for each school are available for year 4/5 class teachers and support staff, PSHE Coordinators, Inclusion Managers or other interested KS2 parties. Stage 1 offers a three hour training to professionals which they then roll out to pupils in Years 4 and/or 5 as part of five lessons which constitute Stage 2. Workbooks, downloadable resources and the support of a BIT Delivery Trainer for one of the lessons are part of the package at this Stage. Stage 3, The Antibullying School, offers each school a further 3 hours support from a Trainer and is an opportunity for schools to choose how they may enhance their approach to anti-bullying. For example, this might include work with parents; review of the anti-bullying policy or a workshop with the School Council.
